Communities threatened and affected by dams, social movements, environmental and human rights organizations of Latin America will meet from October 6 to 12 in Retalteco, Peten department, Guatemala to participate in the 5t Meeting of the Latin American Network Against Dams and For Rivers, their Communities and Water (REDLAR). The meeting takes place amid a situation of vulnerability suffered by social activists who defend their territories in the region.
The meeting aims to discuss issues such as the region’s energy policy, the right to public consultation to the people threatened by the projects and the value of community consultations. Besides, the meeting will follow up on the plans for integration and it will denounce the criminalization of resistance.
