A way out of the institutional crisis is still not clear, after four months from the day when President Manuel Zelaya was ousted from Honduras by a coup d´etat. However, according to different actors which are participating in the negotiations to end the crisis the end of the dictatorship is near.
High US officials are expected to arrive to Honduras on Wednesday, to exert some pressure to reach an agreement between the constitutional and the de facto government led by Roberto Micheletti.
The US delegation will be made up by Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Tom Shannon, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Craig Kelly and Senior White House Official, Dan Restrepo.
According to Reuters, Kelly stated that the delegation was going to exert pressure so that the elections which are scheduled for next month had “the kind of international legitimacy that the people of Honduras deserve”.
Meanwhile, high officials of Armies from the American continent are meeting in Buenos Aires, capital city of Argentina, to analyze defensive strategies and increase cooperation. Honduras was specifically left out of this meeting, since the Argentinian government considered that Honduras Army had a clear role in the coup d´etat which took place in June 28th.
“Both the withdrawn of the invitation to the meeting, and the suspension of military cooperation with Honduras will immediately cease when Zelaya´s government is restored”, stated Argentinian authorities in a communiqué.
