From October 24-29, tens of social movements and organizations that are part of the Global Campaign to Dismantle Corporate Power and Stop Impunity will hold a “Week of Mobilization” in Geneva, Switzerland, to push for a UN binding treaty on transnational corporations and human rights violations. That same week, the Intergovernmental Working Group of the United Nations Human Rights Council, in charge of discussing and developing this binding instrument, will hold its second session at the Palais des Nations. Real World Radio will cover the official talks and will join social movements inside the Palais des Nations and will participate in the parallel activities and mobilizations in the streets of Geneva.

Anne van Schaik, member of Friends of the Earth Europe, welcomed the participation of the European Union and several of its member countries in the UN negotiations on a binding treaty on transnational corporations and human rights violations. WALHI – Friends of the Earth Indonesia submitted to the Intergovernmental Working Group of the UN Human Rights Council that is negotiating a binding treaty on transnational corporations and human rights violations, the case of land and forest fires caused in the country by the production of palm oil. 23 people died in 2015 suffering from serious respiratory infections and 40 million people have been affected in total by the fires.
