The 4th Special Conference for Food Sovereignty will take place in Santiago, Chile, on May 3-4, 2014. It is organized by the Alliance for Food Sovereignty of the People of Latin America and the Caribbean, and approximately 70 delegates from the entire continent will participate. The aim of the event is to propose and demand compliance of measures towards Food Sovereignty, the defense of native seeds, territories, rivers and seas, in addition to integral agrarian reform and dignified conditions for rural workers in order to ensure the human right to food. The activities include a women´s meeting, a dialogue on cattle farming within the framework of Food Sovereignty, and a regional consultation towards the Regional Conference of the FAO.
The Alliance for Food Sovereignty of the People of Latin America and the Caribbean is made up by regional networks of peasant organizations, rural women, indigenous people, agroecological and environmental movements, farmers and artisanal fisherfolk and coastal peoples.
