2013 Special Broadcasts / Asamblea Alianza Soberanía Alimentaria América Latina y el Caribe
The first Assembly of an alliance of peasant, fisherfolk, indigenous, family and agroecology farmers, environmental activists, rural workers and all networks focusing on food sovereigntyin Latin America and the Caribbean will take place next August 5 and 6 in Colombia’s capital, Bogota. For the social movements of the continent the event marks a new phase in building alternatives to the ruling food production model, defending territories and peoples’ rights, both in urban and rural areas. Real World Radio and the convergence of social movements’ media will cover this initiative of collective construction.

The Assembly for Food Sovereignty of the Peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean is the result of 17 years of efforts by social movements and regional networks to participate in multilateral meetings of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). At the meetings they submit proposals, which have the same standing as the proposals submitted by governments, to raise awareness about the importance of food sovereignty in fighting hunger and social exclusion.
