Nowadays, as a result of this ’ordering’, the poorest population is being evicted from their housing and work areas, as a result of the prioritization of mega projects.

Ironically, these situations take place in Bogota, which has been ruled by the so called Colombian left-wing for the past years, i.e. the Alternative Democratic Pole.

Unlike what was expected by the citizens, the local administration has continued the territorial ordering strategies that has the individual as the social center and is not aimed at looking for alternatives for the impoverished population.

In this scenario, the western hills of Bogota, which are very important lungs of the Colombian capital, are in a very difficult environmental and cultural situation as a result of the economic rationality of the governors and the big interests at stake in the city.

Several social organizations from Bogota as well as social and academic groups have met in the recent years to develop a process to legitimize the construction in the enforcement of the right to what they consider direct democracy, in order to move forward in consolidating popular power.

As a result of this process the book called “Who orders whom” was launched last week in Bogota. Real World Radio’s correspondent in Colombia, Danilo Urrea was present during the launching of the book.

He interviewed Edgar León, member of the Popular Coordination of Social Organizations in defense of the children, to know the organizations’ view on Bogota’s territorial ordering plan and the alternatives they have been developing.
