Tens of environmental, peasant and social activists from all Latin America will participate in the first regional forum against agribusiness and for the sovereignty of peoples of Mesoamerica. The forum will be held from June 3rd-5th in Santa Cruz Michapa municipality, in Cuscatlan Department.
Friends of the Earth, Via Campesina and the World March of Women are the organizers of the activity, and they will come to El Salvador to “Mobilize, Resist and Transform”.
The aim is to define the concept of agribusiness and build alternative plans, based on agroecology and food sovereignty. In addition, the impacts of powerful industries like Monsanto, Bayer and Dupont on the peasant world will be analyzed.
The food crisis and the agrarian reform; the situation of peasant women; new agricultural technologies threatening peoples´ sovereignty; free trade agreement as a tool for agribusiness and land grabbing will be some of the issues addressed in the workshops to be held in Santa Cruz Michapa.
Real World Radio will cover the Meso American Regional Forum through testimonies and interviews with the participants.
