As part of a workshop called “Water basins and territorial management” held in Florida, Uruguay, Real World Radio interviewed Daniel Gonzalez, leader of the National Water Department (Dinagua), which depends on the Ministry of Housing, Territorial Planning and Environment.

He talked about the call to create regional councils of water resources where all actors involved in this issue will participate.

The National Water Policies Law provides that government representatives, users and the civil society participate in these councils, and it create groups of 21 members (seven for each delegation).

There will be three slots for the social organizations and four for the basin commission. The regional councils are expected to begin sessioning in November.

Gonzalez also spoke about other issues that came up during the workshop such as water quality, the influence of forestation and pollution with agrotoxics.
