The winter harvests are at risk and governmental measures to avoid further damages are needed. Rural communities from El Salvador affected by floods started a new “walk for life” to the Presidential building.
They are approximately 12,500 families from Usulutan department, in Bajo Lempa Bay, and they have been hit by many environmental catastrophes, Mitch Hurricane in 1998 and Stan Storm in 2005, among them.
The 145 communities at risk warn about the vulnerability of many houses located by the rivers, and demand governmental aid to improve these conditions.
They also demand to put an end to the building of new hydroelectric dams, which impacts in the rural area are evident.
