The National Confederation of Communities Affected by Mining in Peru (CONACAMI) has helped expose the different conflicts in the country and has struggled in defense of territory and water, said Pablo Salas, a member of the organization during the 3rd ordinary meeting of the Andean Coordination of Indigenous Organizations (CAOI).

The meeting began on Sunday in the Colombian capital, Bogota and ended on Tuesday in Chinauta municipality.

Salas gave a speech on Sunday in Bogota at the opening of the congress, as part of a panel called “The situation of indigenous peoples in Latin America and the world”.

The leader highlighted that several social activists were murdered in Peru in the recent days for “defending territories, life and water”.

Salas expressed his opposition to transnational mining corporations that caused havoc in his country and said Peru is an agrilcuture and cattle farming country, that is the heritage left by the Incas.
