Students from Dario Santillan Popular Front (FPDS) reported last week to the National Inter-University Center (CIN) -made up by the presidents of all the Argentinean universities - that the latter accepted a millionaire sum of money from Minera Alumbrera mine.
They believe the university should be an autonomous space, critical of the interests of transnational corporations.
Student organizations also stress the growing link between educational authorities and mining, extractive and agribusiness sectors, and how private universities are participating more and more in the management of school programs.
These kind of investment by private corporations is a policy which has been taking place since the 90s.
Real World Radio spoke with Santiago Liaudat, chair of the University Federation of La Plata (FULP).
He told us about the challenges faced by the students to guarantee university spaces working for the people needs
