Carbon markets everywhere

Interview with Simone Lovera, from Sobrevivencia – Friends of the Earth Paraguay

The technical jargon used in the UN COP 15 on Climate Change in Copenhagen is a stratagem to prevent people from understanding what is being discussed, Simone Lovera from Sobrevivencia - Friends of the Earth Paraguay, told Real World Radio.

Lovera also represents the World Forest Coalition. She said at the Klimaforum, a parallel event to the COP 15 where thousands of people have participated, that the social movements are becoming stronger. She said the organization of this parallel forum was very good and highlighted the programming of different activities, which have allowed the activists of the global South to explain the Europeans what their concerns are.

Lovera also spoke about the official negotiations on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD), an attempt to propose this carbon market mechanism and the proposal that agriculture is included in that market.

The activist also made reference to the indigenous representatives in Copenhagen (especially at the Klimaforum), because those peoples are the real affected by the decisions taken on forests. She espeically mentioned the International Alliance of Indigenous and Tribal Peoples of the Tropical Forest.
