Honduran President, Porfirio Lobo, has fulfilled his promise of using all military and police power necessary to evict peasants from Aguan, who nevertheless are resisting peacefully.
“The Army is using intimidation tactics and there is an atmosphere of fear among the population” said Wilfredo Paz Reyes, who talked about the imprisonment of peasant leaders from Aguan, in Honduras.
“The Unified Peasant Movement from Aguan (MUCA) is negotiating practically with a gun on their heads”, said Wilfredo to describe the features of the “dialogue” with the authorities.
“The same technology applied in Colombia is going to be used here, the same kind of displacements”, said the leader of the Honduran anti-coup resistance. He also denounced the presence in the region of military officers of the dirty war, and thus “the blood spilling could be a matter of revenge for these military officers”, he said.
With reference to this, Madre Tierra/ Friends of the Earth Honduras has been in charge of spreading at world level the serious situation of the region. “In Bajo Aguán, in Honduras, plans for a peasant massacre are being developed. The demand for delegations, economic solidarity and every type of humanitarian support for the families of the Unified Peasant Movement of Aguán (MUCA) is an urgent message”, wrote Juan Almendares, doctor and human and environmental rights activist from Honduras.
The letter wrote by Juan Almendares can be found attached below.
