A little less than a year after the first meeting in Rome, peoples´ movements and Pope Francis will meet again on July 9 in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, with Bolivian President Evo Morales as a host.
"Solidarity, understood in its deepest sense, is a way of making history, and this is what social movements are doing", said Jorge Bergoglio (Catholic Pope Francis) to peoples´ movements gathered in Rome, in October 2014.
From July 7-9, over 1500 delegates from different Latin American movements and delegations from other continents, together with a significant amount of bishops and pastoral agents, with the active collaboration of the Justice and Peace Pontifical Council, will participate in three days of meetings, analysis and debates.
They will share experiences, realities, ideas and proposals to address the problems affecting poor people as peasants and indigenous peoples or families who are struggling for dignified housing, precarious workers, i.e., the people excluded from Lands, who don´t give up and who fight for a dignified alternative to globalization.
This is why the main themes, just like in the previous meeting, will be Land, Housing and Jobs, with a deeper analysis on the situation of Mother Earth and the different conflicts affecting peace and sovereignty throughout the world.
The event will come to an end on July 9 where all the participants and the host, Evo Morales, will have a dialogue with Pope Francis about the need of a process of change that puts grassroots movements as protagonists in the struggle for social justice.
At the end of the event, the movements will submit a letter to Pope Francis with the results of the work carried out during the three days and the most urgent measures that need to be taken, for the Pope himself to consider them in his speeches before the United Nations General Assembly in New York and other International Forums.
"No family without a roof, no peasant farmer without land, no worker without rights, no person without dignified labor”, Pope Francis.
