On September 16 the Makhoul village, in the Jordan Valley (West Bank) suffered an attack by the Israeli military. They tore down peasant houses, which is a common practice.
Women and children (including babies) had to flee the surrounding areas. In Makhoul there is nowhere to live. Very few men remained in the area to demand that their rights are internationally recognized, as those of many Palestinian families. They also expressed their disbelief in the international community and the United Nations. They refuse to leave the lands they have been living on for the past 30 years.
The Friends of the Earth International mission in Palestine visited Makhoul on Saturday and spoke with the local residents there. Here’s a short excerpt of the interview, originally in Arabic and translated into English.
