On Tuesday, in Montevideo, capital city of Uruguay, the event “South America, territory of peace” was carried out with the participation of several Uruguayan and Venezuelan artists

The event was called by the Federation of University Students from Uruguay (FEUU), the Uruguayan Federation of Housing Cooperatives (FUCVAM) and the central workers´ union, PITCNT, and was carried out to express solidarity with Venezuela and to reject the recent statements by Colombian authorities that resulted in the breaking of diplomatic ties between both countries.

Real World Radio was present in the activity, and interviewed Gabriel Bermúdez, FEUU´s International Affairs Secretary and Venezuelan poet Ely Briceño, member of the Frente de Creadores Militantes.

Bermudez gave a speech at the event as a representative of the Federation and in an interview with Real World Radio, he reaffirmed the demands for peace and support to Venezuela.

“What motivated the Federation was to demand peace. There may be differences, it´s fine if we have differences, but any war-like action is unacceptable, there can´t be a war between brothers”, said Bermudez.

Musicians Daniel Viglieti, Luis Pino, Elena Gil, Heber Rodriguez, Maria Elena Melo, Edgardo Muscarelli and the Frente de Creadores Militantes performed different songs at the event.

Real World Radio also interviewed Ely Briceño, who talked about the work carried out by his organization, which aims to contribute in a political way through art to the building of a different world. He also made reference to the event in favour of peace which proves that there is Latin American unity. He also said that the artists involved are at the front of the “cultural resistance” against the attacks suffered by Latin America.
